Independent Tertiary Institutions

ITI Newsletter February 2011

Good morning and welcome to the February 2011 newsletter from ITI - Independent Tertiary Institutions. ITI is a recognised peak body providing a collective voice for a number of diverse private training establishments around New Zealand. This monthly newsletter shares a selection of success stories from our members.

Today, the thoughts of ITI members, like all New Zealanders, are with the people of Canterbury in the aftermath of the devastating and tragic earthquake. As the aftershocks continue, ITI will be looking to work with Government agencies to support all the institutions and students affected, including our valued member Natcoll. People can donate to the official Government appeal here - www.christchurchearthquakeappeal.govt.nz

In this month's stories, the biggest news is that the Media Design School (MDS) has joined the prestigious Laureate International Universities network. This is a tremendously exciting opportunity for a world-class provider and ITI wishes new CEO Frances Valintine well as she takes the School forwards. Also with an international flavour, New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) has announced a new articulation agreement with Middlesex University which will enhance the international career path prospects of their Diploma of Hospitality Management graduates.

Locally, the International Travel College (ITC) has created a relationship with the Auckland War Memorial Museum which sees students gain work experience by volunteering there. Bethlehem Tertiary Institute (BTI) has unveiled a symbolic mural by a local artist which captures the heart and spirit of the Institute.

Finally, ITI notes the retirement of three long-standing Board members - Karen Houston (ITC), Amy Edwards (BTI) and Liz Valintine (MDS) - and wishes them well in future endeavours. All three did a tremendous amount for ITI and we thanks them for their support.

Regards
