Independent Tertiary Institutions

ITI Newsletter - January 2011

Good afternoon and welcome back to the first newsletter for 2011 from Independent Tertiary Institutions (ITI). ITI is a recognised industry peak body representing a number of diverse, high-quality private tertiary providers. Each month, we publish a selection of stories highlighting student and staff success at our member organisations. To kick start the new year, we have four great articles.

The New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) has announced the launch of two new postgraduate qualifications, a Masters of Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, with both focused on early childhood education. These courses are an exciting step forward in ECE training and will potentially benefit teachers at all career stages. Meanwhile, Media Design School (MDS) is leading the student section at the 'Oscars of Visual Effects' competition. This article also highlights the strong relationship between MDS and Weta Digital and, importantly, there are links to the featured videos.

Late last year, the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS) hosted delegations of hoteliers from Vietnam and students from Taiwan. Some of those students may go onto study at the School and the visits reinforce the international approach at PIHMS. Finally, The Learning Connexion (TLC) was delighted at the success of their largest end of year exhibition of student work in some years. There is a link to an on-line album showcasing some of the very best pieces.

As January draws to a close, there is a real sense that the new year has begun in earnest and ITI wishes all readers the very best for 2011.
